Let's wear Sneakers!

Let’s wear Sneakers!

September 25, 2011 |  by  |  Erica, Fashion etc, Flingly, Streetstyle

Do you wear sneakers? I love wearing flat shoes, although it obviously looks quite better having some centimeters more with heels… but sometimes flat shoes are just a neccessity! And good sneakers can be the right casual detail. I love how these bloggers have created nice sporty-chic outfits with focus on their sneakers, they’re by Vans, Isabel Marant, Adidas… And you can even wear a sequined skirt with burgundy sneakers, and it will be definitely look good!

Rachel Zoe Collection 2012

Rachel Zoe Collection 2012

September 24, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion etc, Fashion Shows, Flingly

Last week I attended Rachel Zoe Fall/Winter collection 2012 at the Fashion Avenue. Being a big  fan of hers and haven’t missed even one episode from her reality show, it was an unforgettable experience to meet her in person and cover her fashion show.
I admire her determination and hard working personality.Launching her own line of clothing and taking new directions in her career shouldn’t be easy but must be absolutely gratifying after all.
In her collection I loved the bright colors and the  light materials; a lot of silk, glitter and lace which are my favorites.

What do you think about the collection?

All black at New York Fashion Week

All black at New York Fashion Week

September 23, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion Shows, Flingly, Inspiration, interview, Streetstyle

During New York fashion week I always look out for at least one person who knows how to dress well in black.  I stopped to take pictures of Tony because he fits this category perfectly. He shows that dressing in all black doesn’t have to be boring if you mix textures and I LOVE his floor length sheer cardigan that floats behind him when he walks.

Tony is wearing two All Saints cardigans + All Saints boots, Yesstyle Tshirt and a Balenciaga clutch.

The House of Annie Lennox

The House of Annie Lennox

September 22, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly, Inspiration

Annie Lennox is one of the most interesting artists in the world, both stylewise and vocally, and is named “The Greatest White Soul Singer Alive”. She is most known for her work with Dave Stewart in the pop-duo Eurythmics, with their never ending hits and strong expression. Annie Lennox has always been a strong female icon, known as a very important influence on the gender bending trend we see growing in the fashion industry today, alongside Marlene Dietrich and David Bowie.

If you are in London somewhere between now and 26th of February, you should go and visit The House of Annie Lennox at The Victoria and Albert Museum for a taste of Annie Lennox’ iconic life:

“This exciting one-room display explores the image and creative vision of Annie Lennox, whose music and personal style is internationally renowned. On display are costumes and accessories worn by Lennox, photographs, personal treasures and awards, ephemera from the political campaigns she has championed, recorded interviews, and music videos. The House of Annie Lennox is in Room 104 and entrance is free”, from the webpage of The House of Annie Lennox displayed in The Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

This weeks outfit

This weeks outfit

September 20, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly, Ingrid Holm

This week I’m feeling like a little “Señorita” in a ruffled dress, a vintage belt, and my new jacket from Zara. Here are some of the things that I have been up to lately: I’ve bought quite a few items from this newly discovered online store – In Love With Fashion. The Missoni-print skirt is to die for. I’ve also fallen head-over-heels in lust with a Mulberry bag. Now that I’m a working girl with an office and all that fancy stuff, I’ve lost the need for those huge shoulder bags that give you a bad back… I’ve now fallen in love with The Medium Sized Shoulder Bag. Cant wait to share. Also, I’ve bought a new Mac lipstick to add to my massive collection! The one that I’m wearing in these pictures is called Morange, which I discovered while reading Ulrikke Lunds blog a few months back.

I am wearing: Zara jacket, Indiska dress, vintage belt and Nelly shoes.

I like having some dresses in my closet waiting for parties to go to. Therefore I have problems passing a dress I like without buying it – especially if it´s a bargain. This Baum & Pferdgarten dress is a bargain, and this weekend I finally got to use it when I attended a birthday party.

MBFW 2011

MBFW 2011

September 17, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion Shows, Flingly, TheBrunetteWorld

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week is officially over and this is what happened during 8 days of intensive, fashion packed week.
We had it all: silk, feathers, leather, sequins, dots and a looots of neon.
The designers that impressed me the most were : Yigal Azrouel with his cut25 collection and Honor. Both of the designers featured many bright and daring colors in their collection and neon was a key feature especially in Yigal Azrouel’s collection.
I also attended Project Runways, Jason Troisi’s debut collection that was very avant-garde and artistic.
For menswear, I went to Marlon Gobel’s fashion show, where men were colorful more than ever, the collection was a perfect combination of modern elegance with more edgy twists.
Last but not least: Daryl K collection was vey laid back; loose fabrics, plain colors and huge aviator sunnies.

All in all I had a fantastic time and met great people.
I’ll be back to MBFW for the fall season so don’t miss out!

I stopped Rita because you don’t often see women in silk trousers in the summer , it’s usually shorts a dress or denim.  Rita’s looked effortlessly cool (in both senses of the word) without being over done.  Her rock chick hair added  just enough edge.

Rita is wearing a top by Carolina Herrera, trousers are vintage, shoes are from Opening Ceremony.

Fashionable friday

Fashionable friday

September 13, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly

I guess the most common word for fridays when referring to dresscode is “casual friday”, But since the Flingly team is busy busy busy, we have turned the week upside down, allowing ourselves to dress more casual monday to thursday, and dressing up on fridays (except for Anne, our sales manager who prefers to dress up the rest of the week as well). We call it fashionable friday. Well, anyway, some of us are better at dressing up (Lise, Ingebjørg & Anne) than others (me). I´ll probably always stick to my  jeans – no matter what. Isn´t it strange how different we are? Lise feels more comfortable in a dress, I´m more within my zone of comfort wearing pants. Well, I´m glad we´re different anyway!
—————-

Here´s some shots from one of our previous fashionable fridays:

Monocolour: Ladies in Red... and Pale Pink

Monocolour: Ladies in Red… and Pale Pink

September 11, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly

What about dressing just in one colour? I like the mono-colour dressing trend, it has a great eye impact! Choosing red, for example will definitely let you stand out: with a red dress or even – a more unusual choice – wearing a red suit with trousers and blazer! But if you don’t dare the red version try out nude or pale pink, this colour looks so lovely and you can create a romantic look or give a more rockin’ attitude by adding black boots or a biker jacket for example.

IFB Conference

IFB Conference

September 10, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly

So as you know, on 7th of September was the IFB conference (Independent Fashion Bloggers) and here’s what went on; beyond gift showering, picture taking, Magnum’s new caramelized ice cream tasting ( my fav), there were some great guests who shared valued business tips, personal experiences and success stories. I especially loved what Stylecaster’s Ceo, Ari Goldberg had to say, he was straight forward and shed light on how to be successful within the fashion industry; how to approach agencies and brands and most importantly, how to create and cultivate your own niche staying true to yourself.
Among the guest also were: Natalie (Natalieoffduty), Eimee (SongofStyle), Leandra (Manrepeller), Stylebubble and many others.
And of course, a long awaited moment, a cherry on top, the one and only Joe Zee, Elle’s creative director. I met him for the first time yesterday, after watching all the episodes of  TheCity, and I just liked him right away from the show, his personality, his approach to people..
To sum it up, I had a great time and met amazing people.
Have a great weekend and stay tuned for an update from New York Fashion Week.

Are you Neuneu or Zazou? Let your feet find out...

Are you Neuneu or Zazou? Let your feet find out…

September 9, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly, interview
I discovered the french label Jancovek a few months ago during a shopping spree in the chic and trendy street “Cherche midi” in the 6th district of Paris. A love at first sight that I would like to share with you, for its colorful and playful but nevertheless very elegant shoes. “Girly and a bit retro”, I like their medium heels which is an  important detail for us women : being confortable in pretty shoes, isn’t it?

After having collaborate with prestigious high fashion houses such as Chanel and Sonia Rykiel, Sandie Jancovek decided to launch her own label in 2007. Five years later Jancovek shoes are selling pretty much all around the world.

I’ve asked Sandie, just for you Fingly’s readers, to answer a few questions :

What do shoes represent for you?
S.J : It’s “the” ultimate accessory because we can’t do without it. It allows to stylize the look and give a little more sparkle to the silhouette.

What is your leitmotiv each time you create a new model?
S.J : I like singular things that we are not used to see, so it’s in this direction I’m trying to go each time I work on a new collection.Which type of women your creations are for?
S.J : For a woman who doesn’t take herself seriously.

What has inspired you for this winter collection?
S.J : A cartoon from the 70′s called in french “Les fous du volant”* : Diabolo, Satan and Penelope Jolicoeur… A childish atmosphere which meets my current desires.

* “Les fous du volant” : The crazy race car drivers

How many pairs of shoes do you have in your wardrobe? And if you had to keep only one of them which would it be?
S.J : I would say 200 pairs… :) And if I should keep only one, it would be a pair of Chanel HC offered to me by the bootmaker Mr Massaro.

Now, you know a little more about the label Jancovek, I invite you to discover the world of Sandie via the winter 2011/2012 collection with the houndstooth fabric which is one of this season’s must-have!

My favorite models are the “Zazou” and “Neuneu”. What about you?

I stopped Leena after seeing her cross the street in this flowing black dress. The open back and gold belt made it feel summery even though it’s dark.  Her fuschia coloured flower sandals are the perfect balance and I actually wanted them!

  2. Alexander Wang Anais metallic leather loafer pumps to walk in style

Since some of these are more expensive and less cheap, it is a good thing there are a few months till Christmas.

Beg Borrow Steal

Beg Borrow Steal

September 5, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly, Ingrid Holm

Today was one of those “Beg Borrow Steal” days wherein I hated what I was wearing so much that the moment I got to my best friends house I flung open her closet and borrowed this dress from French Connection and her vintage sunglasses. The funny thing about this outfit is that people kept commenting on how I didn’t look like “myself” that day. I didn’t know that I had such a defined style. We spent the day walking languorously around Oslo, stopping at cafes every time the autumn rain got to heavy. There we doodled on napkins and warmed ourselves with  strange coffees. Has anyone tried the “Mint Mocha” at Waynes Coffee? Ugh. I cant decide whether I like it or hate it.

It is really starting to feel like Autumn.  I don’t really know how I feel about that… Since I barely feel like I have had any summer. Crossing my fingers for a wonderful late Indian Summer.

What Should I Wear?

What Should I Wear?

September 3, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion etc, Fashion Shows, Flingly, Shopping, Style, TheBrunetteWorld

It has been only a week and I’m back again to share with you several new & exciting updates from the fashion world and my personal projects.

I’m happy to announce that in the following weeks I will be covering the MBFW 2012 (Mercedes Benz Fashion Week)!
Here are a couple of my favorite designers whose shows I’ve been invited to:

  • Rolando Santana – One of my favorite uprising designers. Rolando’s stunning black leather dresses just swift me of my feet!
  • Marlon Gobel – Known for his daring and glamorous menswear and for his collaboration with the king of “shoe makers”, Christian Louboutin.

And there’s still a long list of fashion shows that I’ll share with you soon.

As you can imagine, another great aspect of attending fashion shows is to express your own unique personality and style. I’m only a week away from the first show and I still haven’t decided on the outfits I will wear.
Surprisingly, I know exactly which shoes and accessories I want to wear but I’m still in search of unique clothing. This weekend I’ll have enough time to check all my favorite fashion spots in Manhattan and do some shopping! : )

Here are some pictures of the shoes and accessories that I’m considering to wear.

Before leaving you for another week, I’m very curious to know your opinion and suggestions. What would be your perfect outfit and accessories for the New York fashion shows?
- Can’t wait to read your comments!

Have a great week end and don’t miss the next post, where I’ll share my visit to the Independent Fashion Bloggers (IFB) conference on September 7th featuring many interesting bloggers and a special appearance by Joe Zee, Creative director at Elle.

Round Sunglasses!

Round Sunglasses!

September 2, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly

For my first post on Flingly I chose a cool boho accessory: round sunglasses! I guess the first person that comes into our minds thinking about them is John Lennon. On some of his most well known photos he is wearing round lenses, besides the fact that he usually wore also round glasses – but for them he now has a young celebrity competitor: Harry Potter! Anyway round sunglasses usually fit everybody and give definitely a funny touch to your oufits. Here is how some nice bloggers styled different pair of them, with small and big lens. These sunglasses look good with printed dresses, velvet jumpsuits, but are also great with a basic shirt & blazer. And of course with Doc’s Martens, that looks really Bohémien!

Taking a bite from the apple

Taking a bite from the apple

August 27, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly

Been crazy about fashion and art my whole life. Linguistics expert and photographer for several years. And a blogger for a couple of years now.

I’ve recently moved to NY (My 6 country!) and after a month of settling down in our sweet down-town apartment, I am now focused than ever building my career.
And as you’ll read in my column, there’s no better place for fresh beginnings and new connections than here in the glamorous Big Apple, NY!

Those who know me from TheBrunetteWorld.com, probably noticed that I’m fanatic over everything fashion related; from fashion shows and editorials to photography and fashion writing.

Here in New York, I spend most my time writing, photographing and documenting fashion, design and lifestyle. While touring the shops, shows and meetups from big to small, looking for new connections, bargains and opportunities.

Things are moving with a crazy pace in New York, it’s the most vibrant and energizing city that i’ve ever lived in, among Belgium, Russia, Ukraine, Israel and more.

In this huge concrete jungle you get used to walking fast, talking fast.. sleeping less. It’s all so condensed, and yet at the same time, exhilarating and fun, you don’t even feel the week’s gone by!

This dazzling city is packed with exciting fashion events, and I’m enjoying every aspect of it. From events of promising new & talented designers showcasing their exclusive creations, to blogger meetups and fashion night outs. It’s easy to get by, it’s all so accessible and there are so many!

My next event will be the IFB conference (http://heartifb.com/) in September. This will be my first time attending the IFB conference and I’m really looking forward to meeting some of my favorite bloggers and hearing about their success stories and learn from people’s experience making fashion and blogging their life.

September is going to be packed with events, from the New York Fashion Week to the Fashion Night Out and other events, my schedule has never been so tight and I just can’t complain about how much fun i’m making out of it.

My next challenge is to get access to some of the more high-end fashion shows and cover them from lens, I’ve contacted a number of established PR agencies representing famous brands and designers and other fashion organizations, letting them know about my ambitions, ideas and exciting projects.

I’m glad to have joined such a wonderful team on Flingly and i’m looking forward to get to know you, the readers.

Stay tuned as I’ll share my exciting New York adventures.

Love

Bye Bye!

Bye Bye!

August 16, 2011 |  by  |  Flingly, Hedvig's Letter, News, Streetstyle

This is my last post for Flingly for now as the Flingly site soon will be launched.

Ever since I joined as fashion editor in December 2010 I’ve had so much fun doing daily posts here from London. It has been challenging from time to time but also a great learning process and I hope you all enjoyed my work and articles, who knows, maybe I’ll pop up here in the future again.

As for now, if you want to join me further, you’ll find me on my own blog, Northern Light, for daily updates.

It’s been a joy, see you around!

It’s been a joy, see you around!

“The Midriff” trend is back and I spotted this girl in Covent Garden this weekend who I think pulled it off. Flashing tummies might scare you but you don’t need to be super skinny to get away with it and it can actually be quite flattering if worn with high waisted trousers or a skirt and enhancing the waist’s thinnest point.
Do you dare?

I don’t know anything about this girl and what she’s wearing but I recognized the pants immediately, they’re from Zara.

Some of my outfits this week

One of my best buys recently is the leather gilet above from H&M’s mens department. In fact I sometimes find more things there I like than in the women’s, like when I look for loose and oversized jumpers and knits, that’s where I head first.

Anyway, here are some of my outfits this week, bare legs every day, trying to soak up the summer as much as possible before it’s gone.

Wishing you all a lovely weekend!

Shorts Acne, jumper Cos, watch Michael Kors, Ray Ban’s, bag and sandals Celine.

Shorts, blazer, t-shirt and bag by Acne, sandals Celine, necklace H&M, bracelet Kenneth Jay Lane and watch Michael Kors.

Dress Asos, leather gilet H&M, sandals and Bag Acne, sunnies Ralph Lauren and watch Tagheuer

Louboutin Lost First Round Against YSL

Louboutin Lost First Round Against YSL

August 11, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion etc, Flingly, Hedvig's Letter, News

Since Christian Louboutin filed a lawsuit against YSL back in April we’ve been keeping an eye on this case.

Whether or not you’re particularly interested in either of the parties involved or think the whole red-sole-lawsuit is a step going to far, the outcome of this case will perhaps be a landmark for future trademarking for designers and creative souls. And the question that has arised is, can one designer claim the right and usage of one color.

In NY courts yesterday, the federal judge, Victor Marrero, denied Christian Louboutin’s request for a preliminary injunction that would prevent YSL from selling the red-soled shoes from its 2011 resort collection.

He wrote in his ruling:

Because in the fashion industry color serves ornamental and aesthetic functions vital to robust competition, the court finds that Louboutin is unlikely to be able to prove that its red outsole brand is entitled to trademark protection, even if it has gained enough public recognition in the market to have acquired secondary meaning.

While Judge Marrero has ruled the sale of YSL’s shoes can go ahead in the short term, he has asked for more time to consider a verdict, ordering both parties back to court next week.

August 10, 2011 |  by  |  Fashion etc, Flingly, Hedvig's Letter, Lookbook

August is, except for the last hot summery days and end of summer sales, also the month to look ahead for the coming fall if you haven’t done so already, fall/winter campaigns and lookbooks are freshly released and finally wonderful fall stuff are filling up the shelves in stores.

Next month is the big “fashion-week-month” and many of us will already look ahead for spring 2012, yes, it’s a marathon.

Anyway, here is yet another lookbook for H&M where Sasha Pivovarova sports looks knitswear, wool and leather looks for colder days in a beige, neutral color palette.

You’ll find some of these items already in store.
